I hosted the inaugural Create Explore Discover Art Retreat in October 2011. For three days, 15 explorers joined Marisa Ann Denice Barlow Brown, Liz Kalloch and me to tap back into their creativity.
This October, I’m expanding the retreat to bring together 40 women for workshops, fresh, local food and nature walks in the Lake Tahoe area.

Sarah’s retreat was a spiritual and artistic journey. First, we created an open space within ourselves to unclutter our minds and get in touch with our souls. Next, we discovered our inner need to express ourselves. Then we explored our hidden as well as overt talents. I look forward to her next retreat with great anticipation. I highly recommend this colorful and delightful experience!

Being a busy mom juggling life, I never realized until Sarah’s Create Explore Discover Retreat that I needed more “juice” to keep up the juggling act. That juice is the creative energy we all have and need to enjoy. Creative could mean using our hands, hearts or minds and through Sarah’s retreat, all of these opportunities were there waiting for us to explore. Being inspired by incredibly gifted and approachable woman was invaluable. All of the artists were talented professionals whose main goal was to teach, inspire and develop the other women in the room. No egos, no expectations, just pure art with women connecting and energizing.
Since the retreat, I have created a small space in my home where my family pauses to create, express or release their energy. We’re in the process right now of creating some family heirlooms based on a jewelry technique I learned at the retreat. Can you even put a price tag on that gift of memory and heritage? Nope. Sarah’s retreat was a true gift brought to our community. I cannot wait for next year!

The Create Explore Discover Art Retreat was something I never thought I’d do. I’m not a creative person and wasn’t sure how it would benefit me. But there was something about going outside of my comfort zone and learning. It was fascinating to learn how to make art pendants, from beginning to end. Now I can look at different art projects and appreciate the talent and time it takes to make them. It was so inspiring to see everyone working on different projects, and learning different techniques. The location of the retreat was perfect…a boutique hotel located near Lake Tahoe with beautiful architecture and surroundings. And the food was amazing! In the end, I’m really glad I attended the Art Retreat and to have been surrounded by amazingly creative women!

Retreats embody the love and intent of the founder, and let’s just say that every detail was infused with Sarah’s beyond kind and generous spirit. She was a wonderful hostess for an intimate gathering with the loveliest people, in a beautiful setting {at the Cedar House Sport Hotel}, some of the best food {maybe ever}, delicious wine and seriously comfy bed.
What a treat this weekend was, all the way, through and through. We created. We talked about making it in this world as artists. We laughed.
The retreat was so beautifully put together, it was easy to forget that our creativity was the focus…And by that I mean it flowed freely and was lovely.
